In 2011, the Tau Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was formed on the campus of Loyola Marymount University, located in Westchester, California. The 12 charter members included Maya Bradley, Michel’le Brown, Ashton Coffer, Portia Cotton, Aryssa Durrell, Nadia Kelifa, Ryann Mayo, Alexus Payton, Linze Peters, Ashley Ward, Deanna Watson and LaDana Willis. The Graduate Advisor was Susan Price and the Assistant Graduate Advisor was Medica Denton Dave.
Under the leadership of the 28th International President, Carolyn House Stewart, the 23rd Far Western Regional Director, Dr. LaVern Tarkington, and guided by the Graduate Advisory Council, lead by Bettye White, a delegation of 29 Graduate Advisors , including the 40th President, Shelby Robinson from Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter, students at Loyola Marymount University successfully chartered the Tau Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on November 13, 2011. Alexus Payton was elected the 1st President.
